The High Board Of Religious Affairs, which determined the Zakat Al Fitr expense for 2023 as 70 TL, announced that Zakat Al Fitr for earthquake victims could be provided before the month of Holy Ramadan.
The High Board Of Religious Affairs, with the decision taken after the meeting chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Haçkalı, announced that the amount of Zakat All Fitr for 2023 was determined as 70 TL and that citizens could convey their Zakat Al Fitr to earthquake victims before the month of Holy Ramadan.
The statement made by the High Board Of Religious Affairs after the decision included the following:
“In light of the current socio-economic conditions and the need for daily food for one person, also taking into consideration the hadiths related to the issue, the amount of Zakat Al Fitr for 2023 in our country has been determined as 70 TL.
This may also be given in cash, as well as in food and other items. This amount determined is also the daily fasting Fidiyah price.
Each taxpayer can provide an amount to be determined by taking into account his economic situation and daily food expenditures as a Zakat Al Fitr.”
Additionally, due to the extraordinary circumstances, the High Board of Religious Affairs, in response to the question “Is it permissible to give the Zakat Al Fitr before the month of Holy Ramadan?”, which is intensively asked by our citizens, said, “Although it is Mustahab (recommendable) to provide the Zakat Al Fitr before the month of Holy Ramadan, according to the Hanafi School, it is also permissible to offer it before the month of Holy Ramadan. Therefore, those who need to deliver Zakat Al Fitr can give it before the month of Holy Ramadan in cases such as natural disasters.”
