While in high school, Bisibo Amani learned sign language to interact with her hearing-impaired friends. She was unaware at that time of the many ways she would go on to break barriers. Seeing a Muslim girl in a Christian hearing-impaired group and hearing that there wasn’t a similar group for Muslims made her feel very embarrassed. Finding out that Muslim children in her country of Burundi were being cared for solely by the church and were enduring tough circumstances, she decided to help them. She established an association. She initiated sewing ateliers for women. She worked hard, yet moving forward was challenging. She remained determined, Bisibo Amani! Upon the arrival of the Turkish Delegation in Burundi, she had the chance to narrate her story and set up an educational center for the hearing-impaired with donations from Türkiye.
Thus, she demonstrated to everyone that going beyond sounds, words, and even silence is only achievable through benevolence.
