Over the past century, the Islamic world has witnessed innumerable troubles.

The shadow of oppression enveloped the cities, moved through the streets, and descended into the most secluded corners of the houses.

The 1982 massacre in the city of Hama, Syria, stands as one of the bloodiest episodes in chapters of this tragic past.

Airstrikes ordered by a dictator claimed the lives of thousands of innocent people, and Hama was reduced to devastation.

At the moment of this massacre, Syrian pilot Ragheed Ahmad Al Tatari listened to his conscience and refused to obey the order to bomb innocent people.

He resisted the massacre order from Hafiz al-Assad and bore the price of his defiance with a 43-year-long struggle in Sednaya Prison, enduring inhumane conditions.

After enduring years of captivity, he was finally liberated with the downfall of the Assad regime.

Rağid El Tatari reminds us of the highest meaning of conscience, courage, and benevolence by dedicating his life to prison to avoid massacring his people.
