With the support of the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV), a well has been inaugurated in the Israeli-beleaguered Gaza Strip.
The Gaza Destek Association (GDD), supported by TDV, presented the water well it had dug in the northern Gaza Strip resort of Beyt Hanoun to the services of Palestinians in the region.
The water well, where the solar energy system is located, was opened with a ceremony attended by Beyt Hanun Mayor Imad Advan, GDD Representative Hani Süreyya, and residents of the town.
Hani Süreyya said in a statement here that the water well will provide drinking water to more than 10,000 Palestinians. Expressing the “water crisis” that has occurred in Gaza, Süreyya, therefore, expressed his appreciation for the project among Palestinian residents, thanking the Turkish government and people.
Süreyya stated that the project was carried out with the support of TDV and said, “In fact, 97 percent of the water in the Gaza Strip is not suitable for drinking. Therefore, with such projects, the freshwater needs of Palestinian families in their daily lives are met.”
Israel has been blocking the Gaza Strip since 2006 when more than 2 million Palestinians lived there. It was announced that the total damage caused by Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip, which started on May 10, 2021, and ended on May 21, to roads, streets, water, and sewage networks reached approximately 50 million $.
