Türkiye Diyanet Foundation, which carries out humanitarian aid activities in Türkiye and 149 countries, delivered aid to more than 40 million needy people in the country and abroad in 2022.
İzani Turan, General Manager of Türkiye Diyanet Foundation, said that they carry out work in every field that connects life, from education to social activities, from shelter to nutrition, from disaster fighting to emergency humanitarian aid, and activities to support religious life.
Reminding that Türkiye is the world’s largest donor country in proportion to the gross national product according to the Global Humanitarian Aid Report, İzani Turan said, “With the support of our charitable nation, we are always trying to be there for people in the hard times when they need help. While we rush to the needy after disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and fires as well as Ramadan and Qurbani periods in our country, we do not leave alone the oppressed who are waiting for the help of the Turkish nation abroad. Taking strength from the purpose of ‘until goodness prevails on earth’, we attach importance to social peace and tranquility in our country and the world, every activity of the society for religious, social, and cultural development, and remain key to welcoming aid activities made on this path of charity. In this context, our Foundation has rushed to the aid of more than 40 million people in 2022.”
Supporting more than 10 million people domestically
Turan stated that Türkiye competed in charity as a nation from 7 to 70, and added :
“As the Turkish nation, we are making great efforts towards goodness from the smallest individual to the eldest, Alhamdulillah. We strive to be there for the needy through the Ramadan and Qurbani activities, either in our country as well through the donations of our benefactors during the year. We mobilize with volunteers from all promenades of life to provide aid to our needy brothers. In 2022, we planted 700 thousand saplings in our country, Ramadan aid to 1 million 246 thousand people, Qurbani aid to 2 million people, scholarship support to 10 thousand students, stationery support to 15 thousand students, in-kind and cash aid to 3 million needy people with our 1003 branches, aid to 2 million people with the projects carried out by our Directorate of Women, Family and Youth Services, zakat aid to 2 million people, We have touched more than 10 million people in the country, including 150,000 people with offerings and Qurbani aid such as oblation and Aqiqa.”
Stating that they have established search-and-rescue teams under the coordination of AFAD in 6 provinces to intervene quickly and accurately against disasters, which is a fact of our country, Turan said, “We aim to increase the number of our search-and-rescue teams to 81 in a short time to act in coordination with public institutions. With our ‘mobile kitchen truck’, ‘mobile catering vehicles’, and ‘mobile masjid’, we are ready to meet the nutritional and religious needs of the people in the region and the personnel working in the field in case of a possible disaster. Türkiye Diyanet Foundation is the first non-governmental organization to receive a ‘Nutrition Accreditation’ certificate by the Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) Presidency.”
Turan stated that they provide free shopping for the needy through “charitable markets” operating in many cities. Noting that they did not leave the victims who were affected by the disasters alone, Turan said, “In the flood that occurred in Bartın and Antalya, the forest fire in Antalya, the earthquake in Düzce and the mining accident in Bartın, our Foundation mobilized all its resources for our citizens. They delivered aid to thousands of people,” he said.
Aid to 30 million people in 149 countries
“The Turkish nation has been expected for every period of history. Türkiye Diyanet Foundation fulfills this duty selflessly.” Turan said, “In 2022, within the scope of our Ramadan and Qurbani activities, we delivered aid to more than 30 million needy people in 149 countries under the titles such as education, water wells, and crisis regions, mainly in our country. Sometimes we became a warm smile, a bowl of soup, and sometimes a warm home, but most significantly, we became brothers. With the help we delivered, we made the oppressed feel that they are not alone.”
Turan said that with the Qurbani on behalf activities carried out by the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation with the theme of “Share Your Qurbani, Get Closer to Your Brother”, they reached approximately 20 million oppressed in 2022 with 525 thousand 550 shares of Qurbani slaughtered in Türkiye and 375 regions in 82 countries.
350 water wells were opened, 250 thousand Holy Quran was presented
Stating that within the scope of Ramadan aid, approximately 895 thousand people were delivered in 83 countries and 273 regions, Turan noted that they opened 350 water wells and foundation fountains in 25 countries in 2022, within the framework of the “A Drop of Life” project, enabling nearly 2 million people to benefit from clean drinking water.
Stating that they have completed and put into operation 1150 water wells and foundation fountains varying from 50 to 500 meters in 39 countries since the beginning of the project, Turan said, In 2015, with the support of our donors by saying ‘A Drop of Life’, we have provided clean water to more than 8 million people who have been longing for water so far. In addition, animals in the region also benefit from this water. As members of a civilization that carries water to every corner where there are people and a religion that recommends bringing water to living things, we are keeping alive the heritage left to us by our ancestors with the water wells and foundation fountains we have opened.”
Stating that the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation, they are also working to support the religious life of societies, Turan continued: “Within the scope of the ‘My Present Is Quran’ project, which we carried out together with our Presidency of Religious Affairs, we delivered the Holy Quran with translations, which we printed in 2022, to our brothers in 36 countries. In 2022, we presented a total of 250,000 holy Qurans to the needy, including 89,000 domestically and 161,000 abroad. Since 2015, when we implemented the project, we have distributed 1 million 497 thousand 838 Qurans that we have printed in 40 languages and dialects in 85 countries together with our country.”
Stating that they have been trying to heal the wounds of the war victims since the first day of the war in Syria, Turan said, “Within the scope of the ‘One goodness One Warm Home’ project we developed for the housing problem, which is one of the most important problems in the region, we completed 5,676 houses in the Idlib and Azaz regions in 2022 and more than 10,000 houses in total and moved our families struggling to survive in tents in the mud sea to a warm home.”
Aid efforts are being carried out in areas including Arakan, Yemen, Palestine, and Lebanon, where the crisis is continuing, as well as in the humanitarian tragedy, Turan said. “We regard every single creature that Allah created as his trust. Alhamdulillah, this year we have become the hope of the oppressed and the victims who are watching our way worldwide. Even though we speak different languages in different geographies, we have delivered the aid of our charitable nation to the needy. We have tried to alleviate the difficulties they have experienced by delivering the consigned of our benefactors to more than 40 million brothers in Türkiye and abroad.”
