Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) and Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs(DITIB) supported 1500 people in Africa with their cataract surgery campaign this year.

Özkan Güler, Essen DITIB State Regional Union Board Member and President of Balve Mimar Sinan Mosque Association said in his statement, “This year, we have shed light on 1500 people in Chad, Senegal, Nigeria, and Kenya with the contributions of benefactors.”

Güler said that in a private clinic in Kenya, cataract surgery will be performed on a total of 500 people in 10 days, 50 people each day.

Noting that it is a very good feeling to have hope for people in poverty, he said that DITIB-affiliated mosque associations in Germany’s North Rhine, Westphalia (KRV) have started the cataract surgery campaign.

Güler noted that the cataract surgery campaign is carried out in cooperation with the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV), the Essen DİTİB Provincial Regional Union, and the Nairobi Religious Services Consultancy.

Food parcel aid to 2,500 families in Kenya

The DITIB delegation in Kenya, which is conducting cataract surgery, delivered 2,500 food packages to the needy.

Lüdenscheid DİTİB Sultan Ahmet Mosque Association President Göksal Üçüncü, who stated that they were in Kenya to follow the cataract surgeries, said that they distributed food packages to 2,500 needy families in Mandera, Garissa, Tana River and Malinda regions of Kenya.

The orphanages that operate in these areas have also been visited, said Üçüncü, and are assisting them with teaching materials and clothing.

In the areas where they were assisting, needy families thanked and prayed to DITIB and the donors, Üçüncü added.
