The Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) has begun distributing food packages to the needy as part of its Ramadan programs. The program, held at Türkiye’s Embassy in Dakar, was attended by Sedide Akbulut, General Manager of Education Services at the Presidency of Religious Affairs, local associations operating in Dakar and surrounding areas, and members of the needy community.

The event began with a recitation of the Qur’an. Speaking at the program, Turkey’s Ambassador to Dakar, Nur Sağman, referenced the hadith, “He who sleeps while his neighbor is hungry is not of us,” emphasizing the importance of sharing during Ramadan. Sağman noted that his term in Dakar is coming to an end, and reflected on the Embassy’s ongoing collaboration with TDV throughout his tenure. He also thanked Faruk Uslu, Religious Services and Social Affairs Counselor at the Dakar Embassy, for his support.

Akbulut highlighted the Quranic verse, “The believers are but brothers,” explaining that they came to Senegal to assist their brothers and sisters in faith. She emphasized that in this bond of brotherhood, distinctions of color, language, or race do not exist, and that the concern of a Muslim in the West for a fellow Muslim in the East reflects the essence of faith.

At the conclusion of the program, TDV distributed 282 food parcels to those in need. During Ramadan, TDV plans to provide 4,500 food parcels and over 90 tons of essential food items across various cities in Senegal.
