Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) provided food aid to 8,250 needy families across 13 districts in 7 drought-affected states of Somalia during Ramadan.

As part of its Ramadan program, TDV continues to deliver aid to vulnerable communities in various regions of the world.

With the support of donors, the foundation prepared food packages containing flour, rice, sugar, oil, and essential legumes for families struggling to make ends meet due to the ongoing drought in Somalia.

Teams of TDV staff and volunteers distributed these packages to the 8,250 needy families.

Türkiye’s Mogadishu Embassy Religious Affairs Counselor Ömer Faruk Arslan and TDV Somalia Representative Osman Türk participated in the aid programs held at Hindere Camp in Daynile and Bilhayr Camp in Garapaley. After the distributions, Arslan and Türk met with families residing in the camps.

“These aid efforts are very valuable in terms of Somali-Türkiye brotherhood”

Religious Services Counselor Ömer Faruk Arslan stated that humanitarian aid is of great importance in Somalia, particularly due to the severe drought that has intensified in recent years. He noted that, with the support of donors, food packages have been delivered to the needy across 13 regions in Somalia. Each package, containing rice, flour, pasta, sugar, and oil, was distributed to individual families.

Arslan added, “Due to the drought, serious problems have arisen in the past two years regarding access to food and water. Our aid will ease the lives of needy brothers and sisters facing these challenges, and they will always feel the support of their siblings in Türkiye.”

Highlighting the significance of these efforts for Somali-Türkiye relations, Arslan said, “We thank our generous donors. We are distributing 8,250 food packages across 13 regions in 7 states of Somalia. Considering that each family has about 10 members, approximately 80,000 people will benefit from this assistance.”
