The Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) inaugurated a solar-powered water well in Ethiopia to address the local population’s lack of access to clean water.
The inauguration ceremony of the well, which was constructed in the village of Fadis close to Harar city under the coordination of the Addis Ababa Religious Services Consultancy and TDV, was attended by numerous local authorities as well as Ambassador Berk Baran, the Embassy’s Religious Services Advisor Yaşar Cuhadar, and TDV representative.
Ambassador Baran expressed his happiness to be a part of this meaningful opening ceremony and stated that the Turkish people have a special affection for Africa.
Emphasizing that this well is an offering of the Republic of Türkiye to the people of the village, Ambassador Baran stated that they will always stand by their brothers and sisters in aggrieved countries.
Religious Services Advisor Cuhadar also expressed gratitude to the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV), the Habeshistan Cooperation Association, and the benefactors who donated their contributions to the opening of the water well.
The water extracted from 100 meters below the ground brought great joy to the local community, struggling to obtain drinking water daily. During the ceremony, the inaugural ribbon was cut amidst Dua, and the first water was poured from the well’s fountain.
The water well has 15 taps, 8 solar panels, and 5 thousand liters of water tank.
Thanks to the service provided, the prevalence of diseases that can arise from contaminated drinking water and the inadequate hygiene conditions resulting from difficulties in accessing water will be somewhat reduced in the region.
