The Turkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) organized an exam for Ugandan students at both high school and university levels who wish to study in Turkiye.
Serkan Aksoy, a TDV official, said they received 150 applications from Uganda this year.
Aksoy mentioned that written examinations and oral interviews were conducted for the candidates and added that the application for 75 candidates was accepted following expert evaluation and examination.
“Of the 75 candidates who managed to make it through the pre-selection process this year, 22 are those who want to study Islamic sciences at the undergraduate level. 53 students want to study within the scope of the International Anatolian Imam Hatip High School project, which is carried out in partnership with the Ministry of National Education. At the end of the exam and interview processes, we will have selected students for the 15 quotas allocated for Uganda. These students will be qualified to receive an education in Turkey.” said he.
Sabir Oviboy, one of the students who took the exam, said that he had heard a lot about Turkiye and wanted to go to Turkiye for his education.
Oviboy stated, “I want to be an engineer by studying at good universities in Turkiye, and also to study as an Imam. Then I shall go back and serve my country and my people.” said he.
Within the scope of the student studies launched by the TDV in 1992, thousands of students from 112 countries come to Turkiye every year to receive etucation.
The program, in which high school and university students are accepted with scholarships, is carried out in regions with Muslim minorities and communities.
So far, nearly 10,000 students from 112 countries have studied in Turkiye with TDV’s scholarship.
