The 13th World Waqf Symposium, held in Rabat, Morocco, began with the participation of Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV), alongside academics and civil society organizations engaged in waqf studies and practice. Organized at the Dar al-Hadith al-Hassaniyya Institute of Al-Qarawiyyin University, the symposium brought together representatives from over 15 countries, creating an important platform for international exchange.

During the “Waqf Practitioners Panel” on the first day, TDV Deputy General Manager Recep Şükrü Balkan delivered a presentation entitled “The Fifty-Year Journey of Türkiye Diyanet Foundation,” in which he shared the institution’s half-century of experience and its contributions to waqf activities.

Balkan recalled that TDV was founded fifty years ago to support the work of Türkiye’s Presidency of Religious Affairs and stated that today the foundation operates as a global humanitarian and waqf organization active in 149 countries.

Emphasizing the diverse operational capacities of the participating institutions, Balkan suggested that the establishment of an international waqf union through cooperation could significantly enhance support for disadvantaged populations worldwide.

He further outlined TDV’s activities across education, culture, social and charitable services, religious support initiatives, and international humanitarian assistance, highlighting the importance of strengthening waqf practices through global partnerships
