Within the scope of the “Share your Qurbani, get closer to your brother” organization of the Presidency of Religious Affairs and the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV), Qurbani meat will be delivered to 75,000 people in Nigeria.
TDV Nigeria Qurbani Organization Offical Ahmet Hamdi Yemenoğlu, in his statement, stated that a team of 9 people came from Türkiye to carry out Qurbani activities in Nigeria and that all preparations were completed and they were waiting for Eid.
Stating that Diyanet will slaughter 1400 cattle in Nigeria this year for 9,800 shares, Yemenoğlu stated that the meat of Qurbani will be delivered to approximately 75,000 people.
Yemenoğlu said that they will organize a Qurbani program with two separate partner organizations in the country and that they will distribute Qurbani at nearly 400 points such as mosques, orphanages, villages, and associations in Lagos and Kano states as well as the capital Abuja.
“The Turkish nation does not forget their siblings in the African geography”
Emphasizing that the purpose of the Qurbani is to share in the first place, Yemenoğlu said, “The Turkish nation does not forget their brothers and sisters in the African geography. We are organizing a Qurbani program in about 100 countries, especially in Nigeria.”
Yemenoğlu said, “With the Qurbani offered by the Turkish nation to the Diyanet, we are here to show our brotherhood to Nigerians, to fulfill our worship, and to share the Qurbani. We brought them the greetings, love, and affections of the Turkish nation.”
Although Nigeria-Türkiye relations are formally different in size, a very serious bond has been built between communities, especially through non-governmental organizations in recent years, Yemenoğlu said.
“They know us in the areas we go, the places we distribute. They know the Turkish flag we hold. When they see us, they greet us with a different kind of love and affection, and this creates a path from heart to heart between communities. This is important for us, it is important to show the brotherhood of the ummah and we are doing our best to strengthen it.”
